Volunteering = Changing Lives
Volunteers really change lives. Your time and talents can be a stepping stone to those trying to improve themselves. They can follow your positive example and leadership.
Volunteering enables you to experience the world outside of your comfort zone. By stretching yourself spiritually you develop your skills and find out what you’re really made of. You also learn about conditions in the world that expand your understanding of people and places.
Volunteering can be a humbling experience. You discover how people make due with so little, and how hardship creates the strongest souls. You also make friendships, with the people you serve as well with other team members and the advocates who direct the work.
Volunteering is not for everyone. Maturity derives when one is able to put oneself fully into a good cause. Volunteering, therefore, is great for young adults in preparation for LDS missions or study abroad. You learn how to manage your time better and seek solutions to everyday problems.
You can expect a volunteer experience to be demanding and even tiring. But it is also fun and joyful. Every sacrifice you make is repaid multifold. Temporary living conditions might not be pleasant. The first step to volunteering is asking yourself if this project is right for you. What do you have to bring to the project? Secondly, do you have the time to commit yourself fully? Most projects take around five days, but could extend up to ten. Volunteers with previous missionary or foreign travel experience could qualify for longer term periods of internship in which they reside at the facilities.
A five-day service project in Tijuana starts at $250. That includes travel costs to Mexico, lodging, and most meals. Service projects in Mexico City or Puebla cost around $900, which includes RT airfare, lodging, and most meals. They run for a week or longer. For more information, fill out the form below.
