We spent a week assisting Camion Proeduca, helping the mothers cook and engaged in various fun activities. Teachers help kids with homework, as well as enabling mothers to complete their high school graduation requirements. Members of Banda Basura gave music instructions. They fashion instruments from recycled materials. A back-to-school ceremony featured a giant pencil. Kids were presented with shoes we bought and backpacks. The gratitude of these youngsters was truly humbling. Knowing they are loved will direct their lives for good. Haircuts were required for school the next day. Without running water, sewage, or services the community copes with various health concerns. Fortunately, the single mothers keep the kids clean and well-dressed. We bonded with several mothers and their kids. We treated a group of moms to a luncheon. The climax of the project was in purchasing a minivan for $3000, which Professor Reyes will be able to use to expand his program.
